Night of the Living Bread

Comic style zombie sourdough starter

I've played about with sourdough since 2018 back when a group of parents on the school run noticed I was being anti social and depressed and encouraged me to take my son (small child number 3) to the playgroup at the church then join them for the "soup kitchen" afterwards. We went to my friends house and everyone that went took something and the community I felt on those Tuesday mornings was so wholesome.

I tentatively started baking my sourdough and other bits I had baked along with me and it was always so graciously received then I just stopped doing sourdough during COVID which was quite the opposite of everyone else but I was working and home schooling and helping with projects around our home.

Since then I've made starters and either made the odd loaf or just let them die, in December I made another one and started an army of little bready zombies one of which I gave to my friend when shes ready to start baking again and I fully expected the look of really? That I got from her!

I then promptly forgot about them the week of Christmas and I'm having to start again, I had high hopes of using my baguette tin that I've had for over a year but then again that's the point of this blog being intentional with my time. I like sourdough because it compromises of stretch and folds rather than kneading which can aggravate my joints. However I could just stop being lazy and get my stand aid down and use that for normal bread.

I like using the discard from sourdough to make other things like pretzels and cheese biscuits oh and chocolate cinnamon wreaths; that one was a winner one year. So even though I'm reanimating the starters again they hopefully won't go to waste if the worst happens again!

i'd love to know if you make any forms of bread and how you have found it.
